Has anyone tried these speakers yet?

That elusive piece of the overall equation, so many options and so little time to test them all — Celestion, Fane, Eminence, Jensen, JbL, Utah, Ceramic, Alnico, 1x12, 2x12, 4x12, 2x10, 4x10, 1x15, 2x15, 4x15, 1x18 and I'm sure there are even more!

I just ordered 4 of the Vintage 30 copies from Warehouse Guitar Speakers on ebay. Anyone ever tried these? I'm getting four with delivery for $105. I know, I know, I'm probably wasting my time, but just to have something in an empty cab. I'll let you all know how they are. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised. Breath not being held, that's for sure.

Here's his ebay store page.

OK, I haven't gotten these into a cab yet, but man did they get here fast. 2 days and they were waiting for me. Excellent packing too. The fit and finish on these is top notch. No sloppy glue or crooked looking spider etc. All measure right at 15 or 16 ohms. The voice coils don't have any noticable rub. They look real real nice. I like the gray basket color too. For a 5th the cost of a Celestion Vintage 30 how can you go wrong. These seem like Heavy cones(just the way I like em). I'll get my cab together in the morning and I will let you all know what they sound like. My angle cab has 70 watters, so if these are slightly warmer I will be thrilled. I'm home alone all day, so I will try to loosen them up a bit and see what they do.

OK, I got the cab together about a half hour ago. No big surprises. I can only compare these to my angled cab that has 70 watters. That's all I have nowadays. These are much darker sounding, I can't say warm or smooth or anything better than dark right now. They seem less efficient than the 70's. But we have to take into consideration these new ones are in a square cab and it's down lower so unless I lay down, I doubt I'll get an acurate assesment.(I'll do that later after a couple 40's). They move the pant legs real well(is that an acurate assesment of a speaker?) My initial impression is I shoud put two of the new ones and two of the 70's in each cab to even the spread out. I need to spend more time breaking these in also. They are a bit stiff for me right now, but I think they will loosen up with a long version of Cortez the Killer in double dropped D ;~)

One hour of dropped D and these things are starting to grow on me. I tip the scales right at 275lbs. so I equate everything to food. Here's where these are for me now. Nice smoked bacon. Dark smokey sounding with a nice crispy edge. I think I'm going to order another set, just cause the price is sooooo right.

Yum! I might have to try some myself. From what you describe they sound about right for a vintage 30 type speaker as the 70's always sounded a bit thin and trebly compared to a Greenback or 30 to my ears. I bet they'll get nicer as you break them in and hit them with a little more Neil Young! Thanks for the info.

Would you say they have a Fane sound to them?

No, they are a bit tight now because they're new. The Fanes I had in my Sound City years ago were beat to death, so they were much looser. I still haven't taken the bottom cab out. I need a gig at a bigger place so I can open this thing up. I'll keep you posted.

Practiced at a bigger place last night with the whole stack. These speakers kick ass. They balance out my somewhat harsh 70 watters perfectly. I haven't checked on ebay to see if they are still around, but I'm gonna get some more if they are. This is the best speaker deal going for Celestion type speakers.

installed a quad of the Vin 30 clones in an old carpet covered Tube Works 4x12 and hammered them with a few different amps i needed to test out---- generally very happy so far, seems like a great bargain--- my friend brought back my Sound City 120 w/Hiwatt preamp that he borrowed for a show and hammered the new speakers with that for a while--- this head is helping the break-in along pretty well--- there was some noticable improvement after he was cranking that beast through the new speakers for a while--- i see that they're offering 16 ohm versions now---- i got a quad of 8 ohmers but at this price i'll be getting some more of these in 16 ohms or some of the other clones they have................gldtp99
