This tweed stuff is habit forming...

So, I got a new job that comes with a bigger paycheck. Talked the wife into letting me splurge a bit. I picked up a nice clones of tweed Deluxe 5E3 and a 6G15 reverb unit, both built by an outfit called L'il Dawg. High quality parts, nice lacquered tweed, mmmmm yummy...

Deluxes are my favorite tweed Fenders. Lots of tones and compact. 8) I have a couple, but I will have to post a pic sooner or later of my favorite one.

It's a 54 transition model that someone revovered in brown sparkle padded tolex (kinda like Kustom amps). The grill cloth has an L shaped tear that is sewn back together. I bought it from a good friend who knows his tones and it's an amazing amp.

He he named it "Scarface" and I get crazy looks from people every time I pull it out--then they hear him roar and they all want to plug in.

I know most people would want to pull all that stuff off and restore him, but I would never do that. He has character now...

My Tweed Deluxe isn't really a tweed Deluxe at all. It's a '55 Rickenbacker M-11. Exactly the same circuit as a 5C3 Deluxe. The cab's pretty close, too.
Like yours, it doesn't look like much, but turn it up and it sounds like it's going to hop across the bandstand and bite somebody's leg!
Ugly grey/blue vinyl covering and plenty beat-up. A great sleeper.

Peace-

Oops, forgot I said I'd post pics...

Here's the first one, a 5E3 clone in an Armadillo Ampworks 1x15 cab, loaded with a 1959 Jensen P15N and all NOS tubes:

Then there's the new pair, Li'l Dawg 5E3 clone in a 1x12 cab loaded with a Weber 12A125 and NOS toobs, and matching Li'l Dawg 6G15 clone:

The reverb still has new production tubes in it as I recall, I've gotta do something about that...

That Li'l Dawg should be called a RAWK Dog!!! I don't know the specs on it, but the dude who sold it to me said it had a beefier output tranny to hold the bottom end together better. And it does that trick real well...

I was bitten by the tweed bug many years ago and have maintained ever since that Dick Dale's influence on Leo ruined Fender amps. I have a '51 Deluxe, but prefer the bigger amps... Pro, Super, Bandmaster, Bassman, Twin.

Different flavors man, all of them. John had tweeds and blackfaces, seemed to work ok for him......
