I got this Les Paul on the cheap a few years back intending to have her refurbished, Well I'm finally getting around to it.
It was a tobbacco sunburst finished Deluxe with mini humbuckers that some idiot took a hammer and chisell to in order to place large humbuckers in...moron!
She looked like this up until about three weeks ago...

Here she is being worked on by my good friend Alan Feldman who does really nice work.
Here she has had the larger pick-up cavities routed out and cleaned up and solid maple blocks inserted and being glued in place.
Image
Check out the maple neck... Alan is gonna finish it in a light coat of Nitro 'cause I love the contrast between the mahoganay body, maple neck and ebony fretboard.
Image
Here she is prior to routing for P90s...gonna be a gold top LP soon.
Image
This is her after routing for P90s ....and some tender loving care.

These can be very nice guitars. I had a mahogany neck one, I "routed" out for humbuckers.. Looked a bit like yours..
I played a maple neck goldtop recently, with Duncan Antiquity P90´s. Great tone!

Great stuff

I've had 1980 LP Deluxe goldtop with mini humbuckers, great guitar a bit on a heavy side but loved it to death. It took me 18 months to collect the money so I can afford it ( I was 18 at the time). Wish I still had it :|

What pickups did you decide on and how does she sound???

Thanks fellas....I decided to try the Seymour Duncan P90 stacked hum cancelling pups....mainly 'cause I got them for $50.00 bucks a piece on ebay. I like them soo far....Alot of character to them through different amps. I like them better than "Humbuckers" right now actually....escpecially clean through the rythym and middle... Different amps and settings bring out different aspects of these so far. Lottsa Grind when needed and sweet when not. Love the clarity over the "buckers"!
Thanks for looking.
