Classic Carlsbro Top 50 is back!

Postby Gargantuan Sound on Sat Feb 28, 2004 4:09 pm

Hi Folks,

just thought that I would post this message about Carlsbro bringing out [re issuing] their classic 70s Top 50 head. Also they have a Spirit of 59 combo that looks very nice.

No info yet on the Carlbro site but take a look here:

http://www.pro-music-news.com/html/03/e40110ca.htm

Looks very interesting.

Welcome back Carlsbro!

The 50 Top looks pretty vintage (I like). I would like to see the pricing and how it is consitituted so TT can give us his wisdom on these new bad boys.

Hi Guys,
I'm the Product Manager from Carlsbro in the UK, and it was YOUR interest and enthusiasm for old carlsbro's that prompted me to bring back the 50 TOP (well, that and trying one !)
We are reissuing as close as possible the 1973 spec amp. It will be hand made in the UK with welded chassis (made in our own factory), hand wired as it was with the nearst components we can get to the originals. I can't give you the prices worldwide, but in the UK it has a suggested retail price of £749.99 including VAT. I'd love to hear feedback from anyone when they get to try it. They'll be on sale in April.
Any others we should bring back ? Let me know. I can't promise we'll do them, but we want to keep the people that have supported us for years happy. Thanks for your interest and best regards,

Hey thanks for visiting.

I am new to the Cbro, but my TR 60 is very cool. One of the most unique voices I have ever heard, Do you have any sound clips of the 50 top? I would love to hear it in action. Will it be available in the states? I am a new fan for sure!

As yet, no soundclips are available, but it sounds great. The amp will be available anywhere we have a distributor (and if we haven't got one yet, we're looking for one). In America the whole range (including 50 TOPs) will be via The Music Link (www.musiclinkcorp.com).

A local music store had one for sale a while ago.
They listed it as a Sound City!!!!!

I told them it was a Carlsboro and they just shook their heads.
Now it's sold and the buyer believes it's a S.C.!!

I've never seen ANY amp in that mint condition before, like brand new!!!
I just regret I didn't buy it...........

Hi Duncan,

Nice to see Carlsbro back on track!

I haven't had the pleasure of playing a Top 50 amp, but IMO the 'Top Cut' amps of the late 60's are hard to beat, and cosmetically superior. Any plans to re-introduce these?

I guess the days when I can buy battered (and sometimes not) TC's for £40 are drawing to a close!

fwiw, to get a nice demo of the old 70s Carlsbro 100w heads and 4x12s, check out any Be Bop Deluxe album - ESPECIALLY 1977's "Live in the Air Age"

great tones and a great player (Bill Nelson)! :D

I never liked the Top50 cosmetics, but the white one with the black control panel looks VERY nice :)
