WHo knows about Mexcio Fender Strats?

Postby Clanger on Wed Jan 06, 2016 8:16 pm

Just wondering if anyone knows of a good resource about MIM Strats?

I just picked up a '93/94 and was wondering what changes/options there have been over the years..

thanks,

These are the good ones!

Everything was made in the US, and they were just screwed together in Mexico. The more recent ones are actually manufactured there. I've worked on a recentish Mexican tele custom and it is the shoddiest piece of junk I have seen in a while.

I had a new Fiesta red maple board 50's one about 12-3 years ago, could never quite bond with it and found a MIJ '62 RI with RW board and CS pups that I still have (you might have played it when it was in need of a re-string?). Playing it much more recently (in E flat with wah and fuzz  )

The MIM was well made and sounded pretty good. My son has a MIM 5-string Jazz that is excellent although we put Wizard PUPs in and a series parallel switch for some P-bass tones.

I think a lot of the MIMs are good value, from Seby's experience not all!
All bleeding stops.......eventually.

Thanks for the replies guys!

LD yes I remember playing your strat!

Interesting then that this one is made from american parts. Seby, do you know when the transition was? I was impressed by mine overall. It's a quality piece. String saddles have 'Fender' on them which I don't see on later ones, also it is a nicely done tobacco sunburst which allows a good view of the grain and assures me it is a one piece body.

Most interesting though is that it has a dual gang TBX style tone pot for the mid and bridge pickup. I can't work out if it is original or not?!

Anyway I'm liking it! I'll try to remember to get a shot up soon.

I guess I need a link to some orginal 90's brochures or other marketing info.
