why does nobody like carlsbro?

One of those brands everyone turns their noses up at for some reason. I thought this one would have sold by now:

Looks like one of the first ever carlsbro amplifiers from the early 60's. Very cool in my opinion but still sitting on ebay unloved...

I "like" them but not many for sale here in the States. I'm partial to a matching Head / Cab so that cuts down on the opportunities to get them.

A nice CS60TC Head sold on eBay this week after just a couple of days of being listed for the BIN price on $650;

those late 60's/early 70's heads are quite common on UK ebay, especially the PA version, they clearly sold like hot cakes back in the day.

but the ones with the cream coloured grill on them (like the grill on that combo) are the earliest ones I think, and are less common.

I own a combo quite similar in appearance to the one in the auction (different grill-cloth), but mine is build like an old Selmer with seperate preamp and output-amp - actually the only one like that I have ever seen.. Might be older than this one :shock:

I love my old CS 40 head. Its ser # 367 on a blue chassis with a Radio Spares Deluxe ot running 2 x El 34 valves ( xf 2) and 3 x ecc83`s with a GZ 34 rectifier. It has a wonderful clean / chimey tone and gets really loud and quite aggressive when maxed out. It takes pedals really nicely too.

I love my TC60 Twin combo. A similar one sold for £275 recently on ebay UK. Sometimes I use it as a 2x12 cab for my Marshall Lead and Bass 50 as well. It has the original Celestions and sounds great.

I think a lot of them got stripped out to be converted to marshalls, or donate transformers to cooked marshalls. But main reason is don't think Carlsbro had endorsers, and didn't export to the states, and those are the two things that drive vintage amp prices, seeing old pictures of bands using them, and seeing current bands using them. With the prices of everything else going up, carlsbros will follow, I have a stash of them awaiting that, but might be persuaded to let some go early.
