I wouldn't touch that with a 10ft pole! I wonder how one can drill strange holes in the back of the chassis & not have them punch through plexi panel???? If they were factory original (highly unlikely) how come they don't leave a shadow in the plexi panels like the other original factory cut outs????

Codes are correct for a black flag. It just looks like some replaced the back panel with a PA back panel to cover up the holes.

The whole thing looks like a typical 1967 JTM100 with Black Flag front panel. It has been modded (probably more so in the past - loop/mv/line out cascade - who knows.

Both trannies and the choke look to be original as is the rectifier and most of the board components, Two of the mains filter caps and the preamp cap have been replaced (not particularly elegantly) and the preamp has been tweaked to later split cathode superlead spec. To get it right I suspect a full recap (once three have gone the others should be considered at risk IMO). Original type dual 32 cans are available from valvestorm and 32uF 450v axials are probably best replaced with 33uF 400v or 450v RIFAs nowadays. The preamp board will be a matter of taste. I find my similar spec amp excellent in stock condition with a wide range of plexi tones and dynamics that is hard to beat as long as you can cope with the volumes

to be honest, I didn't even look at the components. I just saw the holes in the chassis & lack of holes in the plexi panel & that's enough for me to stop looking. Might be a great amp, but if I am spending more than $2500 on an amp, I would rather spend the whole hog & get a straight no/limited issues amp that I know I can sell down the road if need be & hopefully not get hurt.

These amps are not very common. Production hadn't kicked up yet so if this particular period is what you desire you won't get a lot of opportunities to land one. This one would be fair at 3500 (if original iron) and nice player.

Is that a cover over a hole for the rectifier tube? They wouldn't have a hole there for a cap back then would they? That looks strange.

That hole with a cover came with the steel chassis JTM Black Flag amps - they all have it - no idea why! The aluminium alloy chassis do not have a hole there and, of course, the later 10 and 12 series amp have the PI filter cap there.

Tazin might know

Edit: Actually I know :!:

These chassis are/were all double stamped for the 50w PA amps and the 100w lead or bass amps. When the Dagnall OT came in these required hand drilling (at present I have two of these amps in the mid 10 series numbers) both have evidence of only ever having the Dagnall C1998 1 1/2" OT (bolt hole marks and shadows from the OT feet).

The extra hole will be for the potential to mount the valve rectifier of the 50w PA amp and the filter cans up top (there are pics around of various incarnations:

The hole next to the speaker jacks looks correct for a Super Trem chassis. The others don't look evenly spaced so who knows.
