Very odd amp. Know of no one with one but it also comes under different names, so maybe it was made for Sound City. Its looks are unique for Sound City.
On a long enough time line the survival for everyone drops to zero.

IIRC Sixten has one. Or may be nother member from northern europe, he was saying that the amp is realy a PA, not supper suited to guitar.

Bye.

Max.

Thanx! But it might be a good amp for the studio.
Or it can be tweaked to the right input impedance.

More info PLEEEEEEASE!!!

I HAVE ONE !!!

Postby Gazzer on Wed Feb 08, 2006 9:08 am

I got mine off e-bay some while ago - listed as faulty because the mains lead had been clipped off. It came cheap!

I got my tech to fix it up and he tweaked and cleaned it up and it now works quite well. 8)

A bit noisy though - certainly couldn't use it in the studio but the guitarist in my band hooked it up to the rehearsal room's 4x12 and it sounded HUGE.

You couldn't really describe the sound as "Sound City" or "Marshall" or anything else for that matter! He felt it could be used occassionaly but not full time.

So now I keep it as part of my collection rather than a gigging or recording amp - just nice to have and when you think it cost me under £30, if my recollection is correct, where else are you going to get a low wattage valve amp for that sort of money.

Cheers all,

Gazzer

The Elpico model possibly sprang from the OEM** that made the SC Studio 20 for Dallas Arbiter, which definitely wasn't shy about using OEMs.

SC Studio 20 photos start here.

Best regards!

** OEM = original equipment manufacturer (which really is a misnomer)

hi, just a little info on the sound city studio 20 , originally it was built by Lee Products Company ( the products were called eLPiCo ) the original amps were built in the early 60's , check out Elpico ac88, yes, it's the same amp) mr Lee started work for sound city around 1968, hence the renamed and logo ,I hope that helps , DD
