back plate looks pretty standard. Front plate does not (but you know that).
I would really have to see a gut shot to know what that "thing" is
but with "master volume" on the front I would bet that it has a none Sound City pre-amp.
but, ya never know
cab MIGHT be worth $1250 USD. IF the cones are original and there is no coil rub. Hard to say.

that would 'splain a lot
would still like to get a look at the circuit
and that explains the old school logo...not what I would have expected to see on a 50+ or 50 PA

Those aren't the same transformers as Hiwatt. Hiwatt used Partridge, those are EV. I've got a bunch of 50 PAs way cheaper than that if wanna roll your own.

??? All of my Sound City amps have Partridge transformers including a 1972 50 PA Plus. Those sure look like Partridges to me.

Partridges are lacquered. Those are Electro Voice. Pretty commonly in Sound Citys, sometimes one of each. Sellers always claim they are Partridges though. EV didn't stick their label on as well as Partridge.

Edit: got the scrolling and zooming to to work at same time. Left is EV, right is possibly Partridge, can't see the sticker.

Interesting. My 100s both have labeled Partridges, my GT80 has 2 labeled Partridges.
My 50 PA Plus has one labeled Partridge the other is lacquered but is missing the label.
My L120 has one labeled Partridge and one with no lacquer and no label (like your example).

The question I have is why would they use two different suppliers of transformers?
Unless they were phasing one in and the other out.
When I do a google picture search of Electrovoice transformers nothing like these shows up.
Can you share any more about these? Are they inferior?
Were they made to look like Partridges on purpose? Any History?

Some info was put up by a former Roost amp employee, he was quoted on Chambonino's site too but I can't find it.
https://ampstack.wordpress.com/2011/10/ ... roost-amp/ in the comments.
Hi,

Yes, I’m the Terry, who is quoted on the John Chambers site. Not all the Sound City amplifiers used Partridge transformers. Sound City used Partridge in the early days but went over to Electro-Voice, as in the amplifier on John site, sometime in the Mid 70’s as the partridge transformers were getting expensive. The Electro-Voice transformers are exact copies of the Partridge transformers. Electro-Voice made a lot of transformers in there time for the electronics and radio industry. In the early days Roost used to get transformers from Sound City, who was just across town so this explains why they had the same transformers.

I have Sound City 120 and that has Electro-Voice transformers.

Regards
Terry.

It does seem make sense that as time went by they started to change since my 120 is the newest Sound City that I own.
The question is do the Partridges work/sound better than the EVs?

The rest of sound city's is way too inconsistent to compare. But the custom amp I had made round iron from an EV loaded SC120 PA is going down great with people that try it.
