Could anyone describe what Zakk is using to create the radical feedback when fingering his sustaining vibrato?

I think you might be refering to his pinch harmonics, which he's known for.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinch_harmonic

yes..."pinch harmonics" !

but he uses no enhancer?

As I never played through EMG 81's 0r 85's are they influencing the effect?

Yes EMG's drive the amp differently than passive pickups

He's also using massive strings and standing right in front of the marshall

but... its all in the beer

Truly "Wylde"!

Going to have to try a set....doubt if I'm going to put them on any of my guitars with a Floyd Rose.......Guess I'm in need to try out some active pups as the EMG's, set bridge and a set of those strings and lite it up in front a good Marshall stack :jam:

I always admire his sound.

He wanted to do a Real Full stack but his black label people got him to calm down and kill the baby stack

they still had to get him to the show that night ....

Oh the stories I've heard about that guy!

He uses His Re issued JCM800s. 6550 tubes. Super Distortion pedal , a wah , phasor and for pinch harmonics as the others say. Itsd in your hands.

yoU BEAR DOWN ON YOUR STRINGS ,11S MAKES NO DIFFERANCE . i USE 10'S. After bearing down on the note pick hard and pudsh up on the string harder then usual. key isto use the very edge of the picvk and just keep testing out the way you vibrato/ bend the string. youll get it . not a hard thing to do

Yes, fully understand and learned the protocols for "pinch harmonics"way back from ZZ Top.... played through many and own many old school Marshall's, Laney's etc. since '73. Own two 800's and several other 2203's & 04's and still have to say there is something that makes his pinch sounds come through MUCH stronger, longer and with more sustain and harmonics than I've been able to accomplish or what I've heard from many other masters out there.

he's had the same rig for 20 years I believe. Boss SD-1, Boss chorus (CH-1), Dunlop Rotovibe, JCM800 100w heads w/6550's, Marshall 4x12's w/EV12L's. I think it's the EMG81's that make his tone so over the top. the first time I played with a guitarist who used 81's I was shocked at how much output they have. he plugged straight into my DR-103 and the amp sounded high gain all of a sudden.
I just hear standard pinch harmonics, his technique is world class, that helps.
