There's a guy on the Toronto Craigslist site trying to sell a 1973 OR200 for the low low price of $5000

thats the first one i have seen with just orange on the faceplate. wonder if thats the original faceplate

there seems to be something on the faceplate that shouldn't be, can't tell from that pic if its a sticker or a hole.

Don't the upper and lower sections of that faceplate appear to be different colors?

I would dread paying $5000 for one, but since I have one I like thinking they're worth that much.

i like thinking they are worth that too :D

i was wondering whether they were different colours or whether the guy had cleaned the top bit but couldn't be bothered to fiddle round the knobs.

faceplate looks to be one piece but its hard from that pic to tell if it is in two pieces

i think it's matter just only about increased price through biddings and auctions. i don't think they did had a real market into the history of rock. I'ld not imagine a Hendrix through them. for those money i'ld prefer buy a holy graal marshall jtm45 or a plexi too

Bought myself a lottery ticket today, maybe I'll finally be able to replace my tiny terror with something with a little more juice

I really would love to own one of these though, any idea how they compare to the newer GT-200's? Apparently Moog audio downtown has a "green" (I'ts in a black sleeve, but the faceplate says Green on it and apparently lights up) GT-200 in their shop that I would love to test out

the gt200 was based on the ormat 200 but i think it has had tweaks possibly more gain as the or200 was thought to be too clean, i should imagine the depth/voice/bass boost whatever they have called it works on all drive settings.

i was told there are some small differences between the bass version and guitar version.

The amp on Craigslist looks like it has a plugged hole in the faceplate. Some OR200 amps did come with just Orange on the faceplate.. If it was a replacement faceplate the plug would not be there..

$5000 is a lot of money for an OR200 but I did sell mine for $5000 about 3 years ago. So its not impossible to get.. though my amp was cleaner and had Orange/Matamp on the faceplate. Mine also had the original GEC KT88 tubes

Hi, I'm the one with the 5K OR200. I'm just negotiating with a relative who has lusted over it for some time. Problem is I don't want to sell it. I figured if someone was flush enough to spend that kind of money, then I couldn't say no.

The pictures are not very good, but the faceplate is one piece and, as far as I can tell, original. It's discoloured around the knobs - the white surface is somewhat scratched off. The silver thing on the faceplate is definitely a plug of some sort. I thought maybe there was a master volume installed at one point, but I don't really know. My post says All Original - which may be misleading now that I think about it, because the salve out has a standby switch installed, and the tubes are 6550's.

I was hoping this would have been a Matamp build, but things are suggesting otherwise. I was told by "G" at Matamp UK that it was probably built just after Orange and Matamp split - hence the lonely Orange logo. The guts look the same as other 200's I've seen floating around the net. I'll get some detailed pics if anyone is interested.

Cheers

Amoun.. your right... I'm bad on remembering time lines...lol... Might have been 4 years ago.. Just as gear prices were going down.

It was in great condition.. I miss it but it just never got used. The tone was too clean for live shows.. I used it in the studio a bit.

I still have the OR100 to keep me happy :D

remembering timelines only gets worse :D but as far as timing goes yours was impeccable.

i got $3,000 for my "spare" or200 a few months later, all original but not as pristine as yours was.

the last one that sold on ebay uk went slightly north of £1,200 a couple of months ago.

if i could get $5,000 for my other one i would be happy to let it go too

I have come to a point of little confusion at the restoration of my OR200. There are 2 brown/yellow heater wire pairs coming from the same taps of the power transformer. One wire pair is connected to the 2x ECC82 and 2x KT88. The other wire pair is connected to to the remaining 2x KT88. I had to replace this wire pair because it had been replaced by an ugly all black wire pair. The wire pair between the 2x KT88 is still original and the yellow wire is connected to pin 7, the brown wire to pin 2. At the other 2x KT88 the yellow wire is connected to pin 2 and the brown wire at pin 7. If I now connect the brown and yellow wires to the same taps of the power transformer where the other heater wires are connected, the AC phase of the heater voltages is not equal at all power tubes. Please, can somebody who has an OR200 take a look at this wiring and post some information, thank you.

Edit: From what I can see at the photos of other OR200´s, the heater wires for the 2 power tubes only are all wired the wrong way. The yellow heater wires at all power tube sockets are always connected on the side of the socket that points to the middle of the chassis. But the 2 power tube sockets which are fed by the 2nd heater wire are turned 90 degrees against the other power tubes and therefore the socket pins are nearly reversed.

Unfortunaly this thread seems to be out of interest since it was hijacked. Please read my posting before this, it is very important for me.

I found a printing on the big electrolytic cans 69.10, is the 10 for the month or the week of production ?

This one I've got has the heaters wired the opposite way around on each pair. I need to check where they originate; from memory, they come off the same terminals on the mains transformer and a separate winding supplies the preamp.

The date codes on those caps are YY/WW. The smaller cap in your photo has a week 27 date code.
