Pickup Routing question on existing guitar

Postby elda on Wed Jan 27, 2010 8:02 pm

I would like to enlarge the pickup cavity on a dillion mosrite copy guitar in order to fit a Jazzmaster Pickup. Would the dremel tool with a routing bit and routing attachment be a good way to do it? The current depth is fine, just need a wider dimension.

I've done it like that without problems.

That sounds great. Next stop the tool section of a home improvement store

You are going to be using a template aren't you? I mean you can rough it out and will look ok, but it won't look neat.

Template? :?: "I don't need no stinkin template" :P Seriously, you are absolutely right. Using a template is the prudent thing to do. I did finish my project and it did come out OK, not perfect but not too bad. I didn't use a template, I did check around for a Jazzmaster pickup template, but not luck. In my case I don't think it would have worked because I had to mod the pickup cover to fit in the cavity.

Where do you get a pickup cavity template?

Pickup templates, but none for Jazzmasters. I swore they had Jazzmaster pickup templates.
