les paul help(which years of late are CHAMBERED?)

Postby igneous on Wed Feb 10, 2010 12:46 pm

Heres the deal, My buddy bought one of those BFG's(I dont know, must be a 2000 something) and there is this crazy resonance that jjust bugs the heck out of him. Its noticeable in between stops(metal). The sg he has doesnt do it. I have had guitars with similar issues , turned out to be the pickup cavity ringing so we tested that and made sure it wasnt that. We are thinking it must be a chambered body thing. Are there certain quality issues with later lesters such as not enough good wood anymore so they special chamber them or something? I ask because he is thinking of getting a studio but we want to know if say it would be better to search for a mid-nineties one, an eighties one or what-not. Am I making sense? Thanks for your time-

Tell him to try the "Carvin CS4 or CS6". No chambering, solid amazing instrument. Guitar World just gave it the Platinum award. Here's a link to check it out.

CS4: http://www.carvinguitars.com/catalog/gu ... ?model=cs4

CS6: http://www.carvinguitars.com/catalog/gu ... ?model=cs6

These guitars are awesome for half the price of a Gibson. IMO Gibson quality has really gone down over the last few years. You have to go through a couple dozen till you find a sweet one.

He can go with the plain maple or flamed or quilted maple top. Loaded with options I'd say he could get one for under $1,500. If he went with minimal options around a grand. I have four Carvin guitars and they are amazing. I also have a 2001 Gibson Les Paul so I'm not a Gibson hater, I just think that they are not what they used to be.

WOW! Dude, that sounds killer! And you know, they have a ten day period that starts after the guitar gets to you if for whatever reason you don't like it, you can send it back for only the cost of shipping. Money back. Go for it!!! :jam:

I think the new "Classic" series are still solid. Don't know when they started the chambering but they have been doing he swiss cheese hole weight relief for a long time now.

All Gibson USA line Les Pauls are chambered since mid 2006.

The Traditional LP's are weight releaved ( 9 shot glass sized holes in the body).

Gibson Custom/Historic Les Pauls are solid exsscept for cloud 9's or one's with
a CR in the beginning of the ser #.
