Thread wire sizes

Postby impulsionaudio on Sun May 24, 2009 4:52 am

I am having a guitar built and am trying to decide one the fretwire. I have a Strat with medium frets that feels wonderful. I have a Les Paul with jumbo frets that is much easier to play fast on but I hate the feel. Moving my hand up and down the neck the frets make my fingers feel like they are doing hurdles. This is a classic issue I have read about many places:

Jumbo frets->easy to play but feel like speed bumps
small frets->smooth neck feel but requires more accuracy

I don't expect someone to tell me what to do. I would just like to hear other players' experiences on the subject and where they are now.

Thanks

I've never played a gibson with thin frets but I would sure like to give one a try if I could find one setup that way. Personally I don't like the feel of a Les Paul. It's just a personal thing. But I have to say that thiner fretwire would be a step in the right direction.
