Evolution of 70's Tele necks--did they evolve?

Postby steveokla on Thu Jul 22, 2010 6:29 pm

I'm a huge fan of chunky necks, in particular, chunky U necks. I've been casting about lately for various '70's Tele's that have captured my imagination--regular old, Thinline, and Customs. Anyway, I've stumbled across comments that suggest strongly that somewhere in the mid-to-late 70's, Tele necks in general headed back in the direction of the '50's necks--chunkier. I doubt they ever returned to the real firehoses, but I've seen enough remarks concerning '77 and later Tele's that suggest they're beefier than, say, the '73's or '74's. Can anyone confirm or refute my suspicions on the matter?
