Alnico used on Vintage Strat Pickups

Postby Strat59 on Sun Jul 04, 2010 4:52 pm

Can anyone tell me what Alnico was used in the '50's Strats , '60's Strats pickups ? Alnico 2 , 3 , or 5 ?? And the Tonal Differences.
My old '59 sounds great but never knew what they were made from. Had heard Alnico 2 for '50s Strats ?

It's probably close to today's AlNiCo 3. The magnet had North on top, that changed around 1959/60 to South on top.
