Motorbating in HotRod Deluxe clone

Postby psklpt on Thu Feb 26, 2015 7:29 pm

Hi everyone,

I have cloned a Hot Rod Deluxe with spare parts i had but the only difference with the original amp is the power transformer. It's a AA165 style tranny that outputs 320V at B+ instead of the 430V in the HRD…
And since i have motorboating when in drive mode i turn the Bass pot higher than 2 o'clock, i was wondering if that could be caused by the "lack" of voltage?

Thanks a lot for your help !

Motorboating is almost invariably due to inadequate B+ decoupling.
Maybe one of the spare B+ caps was bad, most likely the one on the pre-amp node?
Try tacking a known good one across it.
