DR 103 clone help

Postby bigdaddy60 on Thu Apr 10, 2014 9:33 pm

I have built 2 DR103 clones...and now I need help! The 100 ohm 5w resistor keeps popping. I have 509v out of the rectifier section. Checked everything I can think of. When I do get it to work for a few minutes the volume
out is very low. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I don't know much about Hiwatts, but it would take over 220mA though that resistor just to get to 5 watts. It looks like this powers your preamps tubes so, I would say look for a shorted component in the preamp. This might also explain you low power output - your current is being stolen by your preamp and its starving your power amp.

That's my guess anyway...

If I'm looking at the right schemo, that also supplies the screens, you could have a shorted power tube. Try it with the tubes out.
