Hybrid of a Vox AC30 and Hiwatt?

Postby fenderbender4 on Fri May 17, 2013 10:13 pm

I like the sound of an AC30 as a basic foundation, but am looking for something that can have that "squeaky" clean sound at higher band volumes. I find an AC30 is always a little too crunchy. I'd also like it to have a tighter bass and a bit more immediate feel to it. I know the AC50 sort of fits the bill, but I'd like something that's gig/road ready and not something I have to worry about. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I've thought about Matchless (never played one) but I know I am picky about high frequencies and am afraid a matchless will be too bright for my taste. I know AC30's are bright but for some reason, in my experience, it's a brash/brightness that for some reason doesn't get piercing.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this topic has been beaten to death.

I could recommend a Guytron, like I have, but you could probably tweek, or have one AC30 voiced, so it would sound richer rather than brighter.
