My friend just built a Fender Champ and showed to his brother who is a bass player. Now he wants a tube bass amp. What bass amps have parts or kits out there for sale?

100-watt superbass kit (or just convert the superlead kit to superbass) from Metro should work well.

After doing a little research, i've decided to build a one channel preamp based on an ampeg B-15N '68 circuit to feed into a grommes 221 PP 6L6 monblock Hi-Fi amp that I picked up at a surplus sale for $1. lest the term "Hi-Fi" scare you, I'll be adding a switchable 'phase inverter simulator' gain stage to the preamp so as not to cheat the preamp from the effect of phase inverter gain. I tested the Hifi amp with a Matchless Hotbox ( AC30ish tube preamp pedal) through mt marshall 2x12 and it sounded delicious.

The preamp will feature:

- Bright and Normal Inputs
- a -10dB pad on the inputs
- Tuner out (from the cathode of the first gain stage)
- 5751 or 12AX7 tubes instead of 6SL7
- Preamp Gain (volume control)
- Treble/Bass Bandaxall tonestack with ultra high and ultra low switches
- Output Level (master volume)
- Output Mute switch
- Switchable Phase inverter simulator (1/2 the phase inverter circuit)
- possible "Boost" switch (to use the unused triode from the previous 3 triode stages)
