I just got the Black Widow DVD/CD and I am obsessed with Geoff Griffith's Gibson Bass tone!

They're virtually identical, except for some miniscule cosmetic differences(besides the headstock shape). there's an article that runs it all down in recent issue of Vintage Guitar(or was it Bass Player?), but if I remember correctly, Gibson created the Rivoli under the then newly-acquired Epiphone brand to circumvent screwy distribution deals and place Gibson-manufactured products into stores where there was no 'Gibson' branded instrument franchise, similar to the Marshall/Park situation. That's why all those British Invasion bands seemingly only played Rivoli's. Also, the model received a second pickup much later than the EB2.

The EB-2 and the Rivoli are pretty much identical with pretty much identical parts and construction with the difference being in the cosmetics. Made in the same factory, with the same stocks as the comparable Gibson/Epiphone model.

Here's my old EB-2. I sold it 15 years ago, and didn't start missing it until around 2 years ago...

I hung onto that bass for a long time just because it was beautiful. It just looked *classy.*

It played awesome, the most comfortable neck. It was a bit unwieldy with the big body, but it was dreamy.

Why I had to get rid of it was because it sounded like poop. I wanted more of a "Fender-y" sound, and EBs just don't do that.

It wasn't until the past few years that I actually wanted *that* sound.
