Speaker for DIY Basscabinet

Postby Joker on Wed Jun 13, 2007 5:35 pm

Hi dudes!

What do you think, what´s a good Speaker for tight sound with low end ( down to 40Hz).
I am using 4 string bass tuned down to "d" and a Hiwatt 200. Usually I use a pick for playing fast lines. On the otherhand I need some bottom End for dub-regae-type bassparts.

Has anyone used the Eminence BP 102?
Thinking of building at least two cabinets with 2 Bassdrivers and one of them including an Celestion Truvox 6" or Eminence Alpha 6".

Looking forward to lots of replies

Warehouse Speakers!

Postby Painterman on Wed Jun 13, 2007 11:44 pm

I was recently turned onto Warehouse speakers.

http://stores.ebay.com/Warehouse-Guitar ... esstQQtZkm

I put 2 of 'em in one of my Sound City 4x12 cabs and they sound just as good as the stock vintage eminences.

I'm putting 2 of their 15" speakers into my Sound City cab when theUNIDENTIFIED go back into the studio this winter to record our first full length cd.

I drive my SC 2x15 w/ a Sound City x188 - which is similiar to the 200w Hiwatt.

Thanks for the link Painterman!
:)

However, I am afraid, the tremendous "Vas" of the 15" Speaker is not really what I like to deal with. :( Usually a Cabinet with those Speakers in it should be huge! I was thinking to build enclosures of 110 Liter at the most.
But all other Parameters look pretty cool compared to other Speakers in that price-category.

How about other good Speaker?

Hi Joker,

Check out the eminence 3015. We use it in our 1 x 15 and 2 x 15 bass cabinets at DST and this is a great speaker!! Easy on the back and the price is very good.

I use eminence deltas, 2x15. I ran about 800w through them for 3 years no problem. Great low end.

Hi Jeff,

thanks for Your hint!
Is Your cabinet based on the eminence cabinet designs or do You use a different volume and tuning?
As the Speaker does not reach into high frequencies you propably ad a Speaker for the high tunes. Which one do you use and at what point does it start (I guess at about 1500 HZ). How would you describe the sound :ROFLMAO: Yes I know .... but Is it good for deep end bass playing as it is needed for reggea dub? And also good for groovy Punk-lines with growly low mids?

The advantige of the Delta 15 is that it does not need an aditional speaker for the high frequencies! ... and it is very cheap aswell!
What kind of music do you play?

Yes, I really do like the Eminence Kappalight 3015!

I was going to build a speaker enclosure with 10" ers (for example the Eminence BP 102) but if I think about it might make more sense to use the 15" Speaker.
The problem is I don´t like those tweeters for the very high frequencies. Does anyone know an apropriate 6" or 8" Speaker for the mid/highs that produces about 100 db SPL?

For an enclosure with BP 102´s it´s much easier to find a high/mid speaker!

Thank you guys for telling me your ideas!

The Problem I couldn´t find them in Europa and shipping from the US will be expensive.

Yeah, I've got an old Fender 2 x 15 with those.< They sounds great. I really want to try those Kappalites in my GB cab.
