Famous people, huh? I've only met a few. As far as musicians go, I've met J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. a few times. A friend of mine does his amp work, and we hung out on the tour bus when they played Toad's Place in New Haven in '94. The only other somewhat famous musician was John Connelly from Nuclear Assault.

I've also met a couple of race car drivers. I met John Andretti in 2000. I also went to the Mopar Nationals (drag racing) in Englishtown, NJ as a guest of Dodge and met Darrell Alderman and Scott Geoffrion. And, maybe not really a famous person but a big deal if you're into muscle cars, Tom Hoover (the engineer responsible for the 426 Hemi) came into the dealership I work for a few years back.

I've never met Leftee, Abilio, 'Lonesome' Mike P, Crunchy, et al. But I feel like I know them...
</font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Robin Trower--after a gig. He didn't seem to be wanting to do the "meet & greet", but did anyway, from the passenger-side of a Ford Crown Victoria, window rolled down. Shaking his hand & talking through the open window, it looked like everyone was buying drugs off him. Nice guy, though...</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Eric Johnson--before & after gig. He was sick with the flu, pale as a sheet, and had the weakest handshake; it felt like I broke his hand. Another nice, quiet guy.</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Chris Duarte--after gig. Totally cool. If he didn't have another show to get to, he probably would have talked to everyone all night. We talked about the "normal" stuff: guitars & amps, Jimi... Can't wait to meet him again.</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Axl Rose--numerous times, before the 1st one hit big. Sometimes quiet, sometimes joking, but always had that 'attitude' of "I'm a rock star" thing. Which he was, I guess...but he let it get the best of him. Where are you now, Bill Bailey?</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Shannon Hoon--another Axl-connection, Shannon was in a band in my little town called 'Styff Kytten', just your standard cover band with a wild frontman, as in: stage-diving into a large table of people up front who were having a birthday party. He landed right in the cake. Really funny, unless you were the people at the table. He was always cool to me, but usually liquored-up real good or high on something. Almost went to L.A. with him along with the other guitar player I used to play with "back then". I decided that Shannon's personal habits were something that I could live without. Shannon's dead now; the Bee Girl's out of a job.</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Doug Pinnick--before the gig for a minute or two. Nice guy; he thanked me for coming to the show, asked me "How're ya' doin' ta-nite?"</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Eric Sardinas--before & after the gig. Seen him a few times, always humble and has time for everyone.</font></li>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I want to meet Vic.
Oh, and Leftee, too, I guess...

When I was 15 I went to Chuck Levin's in MD to buy my first guitar. It was a brand new sunburst Strat Plus Deluxe in 1988, it was a brand new model at the time. The salesman brought me out a factory sealed fender box and sdtarted opening it. I was so excited I didn't see this little man standning next to me watching too. As soon as the case was opened I bent down to look at the guitar. Then the little man says, "That's a beautiful guitar, mind if I try it?" I, not even looking said, in a minute, I was here first" and start strumming the 2 chords I knew at the time.

After a minute I get up and see that the "little guy" waiting for my guitar was Nils Lofgren!! I think I stuttered a few words of praise about him and his "band". He tried the guitar for few minutes and said he really liked it. Well, if it was good enough for him then it was certainly good enough for me!!

I also made it a habbit to go up and shake Danny Gatton's hand at the end of every show I attended. He was an guitar idol of mine and I really appreciate getting that opportunity.

I saw Markie Post, from Night Court at the Sherman Oaks Mall "Food Court" :p in LA a few months ago.

I Shook the hands of Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker and Bruce Hornsby while attending the University of Miami.

I assisted Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood in finding the stage while working at the Miami Arena.

I shook Dizzy Gillespies hand in Miami, while in college. He would not sign an autograph stating he only signed for pretty females with large  breasts.

I had Clearance Gatemouth Brown autograph a CD for me after a show. That was cool.

I've helped Yngvie, all of Iron Maiden and Billy Corgan while working at the Margate, FL Sam Ash.

Next week a friend of mine's band is opening up for B.B. King at a venue across the street from my house. I truly hope I get to meet B.B., that would eclipse everybody on my list.

I met O.J. in a strip bar in Vegas a few months ago. Well, technically I didn't really met him. Even though he was standing right next to me I followed the old rule of if you don't have anything nice to say......

Ron,
That rule is especially good to follow if it involves a homicidal ex-football player.

Homicidal? You're not trying to say that he was guilty, are you? He was found innocent by a jury of his peers (which would be ex-NFL players with marginal acting careers...).

Oh yeah...hung with Mike quite a few times, sat in with him once-in-a-while at the beginning of his "solo" career---he's the epitome of the "nice guy", and can outplay anyone on the planet. I remember he tried doing a 3-piece once: a drummer, a singer, and him; he routed out his guitar for a bass pickup, ran that out a stereo jack in his guitar, to an octaver, and into a bass rig. He's one of those guys who can play both bass & rhythm parts like 'walking down the street', and it was just such a joy to watch him do all that stuff...

I was just an acquaintance of Troy's, but he was another awesome guitar player in a regional cover/original band, Ma Kelly. All I really remember about him, guitar-wise, was that he used one of those day-glo pink Fender STRAT's and was a tapping fiend. He was always cool to me. :)

Ah...those were the daze...er, days... <img src="http://jeeptalk.org/crack/smilies/contrib/lynx/orngdizzy.gif" alt=" - " />

yep, we used to hang out a Nick's quite a bit. Always caught Ma Kelly. I used to rip off Seele all the time here on the left coast since I presumed nobody would be the wiser.

Saw Shannon and Mike there as well (my brother's band made a demo at Mike's house with a girl singer who was going out with Dave Lank). Funny thing, my friends and I were were talking about how it seemed Shannon might not be around for long. Mike was unbelievable, though.

Back on topic, sorta, I've read that Seele is becoming a world-class flatpicker. He has entered the flatpicking guitar contest at Winfield, KS the last few years and has been annointed as one of the guys who will win someday. He'll be famous, but in a different venue than the people who hang out here.

John Entwistle, Roy Orbison (both RIP), the members of The Cars (whom I roadied for on a couple of jobs - Ben Orr and Elliot Easton were both great guys), Simon Townshend (Pete's younger brother), Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Goku ;)
Never let the music get in the way of the stage act...

Met Billy Gibbons in a bar in Galveston he actually sat down next to us and we started talking about guitars and playing and stuff he bought so I had no complaints great guy.
It's supposed to be hard. That's why they call it a shortcut, if it was easy it would just be the way.
