Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I been watching this board and looks like a nice place to get infomation on marshalls. I bought my first marshall last week a jcm 800, a lot louder then my fender. I hope not to ask to many dumb questions :)

We're nice people around here (modest too!). But if you are not careful, we'll have you selling your current amp and buying vintage gear before New Years...

Hi guys, my marshall is a 800. It has 50 watts. The amp sounds good but a friend used a les paul with the marshall and it sounded much better. I have a telecaster and my tele sounds better with the fender twin. I guess next I"ll have to get a les paul, oh it also has a master volume knob. Thanks for asking, I like talking and reading about you guys and your amps. Karen :)

Hi Karen! Welcome to the "Board" - you'll never find a more eclectic collection of individuals anywhere else - oh and they're all quite bright and well versed in any type of equipment you may have a question or concern about! And there's absolutely no such thing as a dumb question ....

Give your tele and marshall some time together, it's defenitely not a fender but with some tweaking you'll find some excellent sounds in the combination.

Dumb question #1 I"m sure. Big Red said " but with some tweaking you'll find some excellent sounds in the combination" What is tweaking? Karen

Hey, Karen!

Tweaking is just exploring all the tonal possibilties with the interaction between guitar & amp. An example: you plug into an unfamiliar amp, set the tone & volume controls to what you are used to, then declare that "this amp sucks"!

Experiment! Try different settings on guitar & amp. Most combinations have some sort of 'sweet spot' that will make you smile, & that's what you're looking for!

Happy tweaking! :)

Welcome aboard, Karen. I also have a 50 watt JCM800, and it did take a little time to find the right settings before my Strat sounded right. Keep at it...the sounds are in there. :)
