CTS guitar pots

Postby oldguy on Tue Nov 26, 2002 3:44 pm

I was changing out some defective pots on some of my guitars last night, & while the CTS pots I bought are much better electrically than the stock ones, they have aluminum shafts & sleeves. One of them has already broken while I was trying to spread the split shaft for a tight knob fit. The aluminum is very brittle.

The stock Gibson pots are pitiful(500Kohm pot reads 264Kohm & wiper makes intermittent contact), but they have brass sleeves & shafts.

Anyone know if CTS pots are made with brass parts instead of aluminum. The ones I bought are all aluminum & no mention was made of this.

Thanks!

I don’t have any info to help you out oldguy but I have been looking for high-quality 500k pots for a while. I did replace mine some time ago with CTS pots but I am very unhappy with the taper. It’s not smooth at all. I will be very interested to know if anyone has any suggestions on which pots to use.

Superlead, what brand of pots are they? Have you checked the Ohms rating with a multimeter? Are they accurate?

No, I can break those too! :D

I guess the CTS pots are just available in aluminum. What a shame. If they just took the brass parts of one & the electrical of the other, it would be perfect. All of the CTS pots I got were +/- 10% on measured value.
