Hey All --

Need a killer GZ34 rectifier tube for a '62 Brown Deluxe. What's considered a great quality one to get? So many tubes out there it makes a guy's head spin :) Any help from the brain trust here would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Well, even though it's a British tube, I have always heard the Mullard GZ34 praised to the skies. Since it's not really in the tonal chain, reliability, consistent performance and longevity are probably why it is revered by many. Although I imagine the NOS offerings from he big American tube mfgrs. of the sixties (Sylvania, RCA, GE et al) would also be quite awesome in a brown Fender. Now as far as new production, I really have no idea, since none of my amps use that particular rectifier...(although I do have a couple in my stash, incl. a Mullard, I believe).

There is no doubt, the original Mullard GZ34 is a great tube. Unfortunately, its demand has also made it a prime target for counterfeiters :( . So, proceed with caution.

In my '62 Super Amp, I found the Shuguang works very well:

FWIW, it tested stronger than a new TAD and cost less.
