How can you get a great tone without a good understanding of what makes your amp tick? — EL34, EL84, 6L6, KT66, KT88, 12AX7, 12AT7, 12AU7, EF86, Output Transformers, Power Transformers, Capacitors, Resistors and everything else that it takes to make a tube amp sing!

15v Ac to AC Wall Adapter Question

They seem to be made from unobtainium. Looking at an old marshall preamp requiring 15v AC in. Jameco has a 12v and 16v ac to ac adapters. Would either work for this 9004 rack? The 16v to high v for it?

Schematic here http://www.drtube.com/schematics/marshall/9004.gif

I see a couple of voltage regulators at the jack, you would probably be ok with anything from 15 to 18 volts.

Hi Guys- I got a Marshall preamp on Ebay (series 9000). All it says on the amp is "series 9000"; I'm guessing the same as 9004- it looks the same. Did the power adapter mentioned in your post work? Thanks, Nick.

The solid state (no tubes) Marshall 9000 preamp is a 9004. If it says 15 V with the sine wave (AC) then the adapter posted above will work. It did for me..;)

Thanks, Jamie! This is my first Marshall. Not exactly a Plexi, and not exactly vintage, but paired with the 80 watt-per-side ss Marshall power amp that I got, it should be fun to mess with. Another sale of unobtainium.
