What do I really have...Amperex/Mullards...?

How can you get a great tone without a good understanding of what makes your amp tick? — EL34, EL84, 6L6, KT66, KT88, 12AX7, 12AT7, 12AU7, EF86, Output Transformers, Power Transformers, Capacitors, Resistors and everything else that it takes to make a tube amp sing!

I posted this in another forum and they seemed to think they were 60s Mullards, can anyone confirm this from the photos? Also they tested good on an old philco meter where I bought them...any idea what they are actually worth?

It appears as though you got your questions answered over there. The etched codes almost always govern (in fact, I can't think of a case where they haven't).

You posted on that forum that you paid $5 a pop for 'em. I'll offer you double that, plus pick up the shipping ;) .

I can't figure out the date on these though. Are they 60s or 70s...pods that affect the value? Also I've tried them in my tube hifi (APPJ PA0901A) and it makes the sound very dry tight and smooth...I'm assuming these tubes are much better in guitar amp use? I also got a few Tung Sol 12ax7 and that tube sounds incredible in my stereo.

Anyway I'm just seeing if anyone here has more insight into these tubes.

Based on the graphics, I'd say 70's.

I agree and you are one lucky S*B to run into that stash. Never had a nice tube stereo, just an old Harmon Kardon back in the 60's, but I use I61 and I63 Mullards in my Marshalls and Hiwatts pretty much exclusively. They are at home in those circuits.

For my stereo they totally are great for mellow listening but a bit dull when you really want sit and be "wow'd" they just don't have the top end. But I'm curious how they'll sound in my 64 Bassman or even V1 of my Trem-O-Verb
