Input resistors, input coupling cap or both?

How can you get a great tone without a good understanding of what makes your amp tick? — EL34, EL84, 6L6, KT66, KT88, 12AX7, 12AT7, 12AU7, EF86, Output Transformers, Power Transformers, Capacitors, Resistors and everything else that it takes to make a tube amp sing!

Input resistors, input coupling cap or both?

Postby csar_gal on Mon Mar 04, 2013 4:01 pm

Hi, i have an Ibanez TSA15 head that im modding to sound more "brown". From tracing the TSA circuit i found that the input to grid has a 0.022 cap in series with the signal. But by looking at a lot of schematics from marshall (JTM45, JMP, JCM) they all have a 68k resistor in series with the input. what would be the benefits of changing the .022 cap for an input resistor or do i add the resistor in series after the .022 cap conected to the grid?

Thanks for your help.
