New (to me) Marshall 4x12 cab - what have I got???

That elusive piece of the overall equation, so many options and so little time to test them all — Celestion, Fane, Eminence, Jensen, JbL, Utah, Ceramic, Alnico, 1x12, 2x12, 4x12, 2x10, 4x10, 1x15, 2x15, 4x15, 1x18 and I'm sure there are even more!

New (to me) Marshall 4x12 cab - what have I got???

Postby Clammy on Wed Oct 29, 2008 3:50 am

I picked up a mint looking Marshall 4x12 cab today. The tag on the back says it's a Model 1984 Bass cab rated at 120W. However, inside are 4 Celestion G12-80 speakers with the following markings:

T2871
HN14
444 stamped on the cone

Here are some photos:

The date code puts the speakers at August 1980. Everything looks original, so does anyone know what I really have here?

Thanks.

Cheers!

Looks like a legit circa 1980 Canadian (8ohm) bass cab.

will you keep the cab as stock, or replace the 80w with 30w speakers?

I'll be keeping it stock with the G12-80s.

The only 8ohm Marshall cabs loaded with Celestions are the Canadian JCM 800 series cabs the speakers are probably original as the power rating on the badges have been wrong lots with that era cab.
But the badge would indicate G12H-30 55hz black backs if it were 16ohm.
I've seen many badges on cabs say 260watt when the speakers were in fact 70 watt Celestions.

I've got a 1984B bass cabinet with 1979 Marshall labeled G12-80's #T3249 and 1105 cone codes.
