Homa Castors?

That elusive piece of the overall equation, so many options and so little time to test them all — Celestion, Fane, Eminence, Jensen, JbL, Utah, Ceramic, Alnico, 1x12, 2x12, 4x12, 2x10, 4x10, 1x15, 2x15, 4x15, 1x18 and I'm sure there are even more!

Homa Castors?

Postby odgeuk on Mon Jul 04, 2016 10:29 am

I recently bought an old 1980 JCM800 Marshall 4x12 with a Castor missing.

Looking at it, it appears to be a "Homa" castor. I have mailed the company as apparently they now reproduce a lot of their line, but no reply.

What are my options here? I'm thinking I may simply have to replace all four with some more modern castors?

Can't seem to find a Homa castor in the UK and one's in the US seem a bit pricey!

Interesting. How much info did you give them? Is it going to be an exact replica or just "one that will do"? I could be wrong but Im pretty sure the modern Marshall castors will work as a direct replacement if you just want something that will do the job. Its just that the bases are plastic instead of metal.

I sent them a photo of the original W2. It's an ok replacement but not an exact replica, there are some minor differences. I'll try to take a photo tomm to show.

Tried a modern castor, but height is different. Would need to be spacered.

You can probably see that there are some differences. The new one has a nut, which secures the collar, under which are the ball bearings. I removed the nut and the collar only to discover this!! Nearly dropped the bearings! The nut neccesitates a redesign on the mounting, which now has a countersunk pit to accommodate the nut and wheel.

Also pictured, for comparison, a Marshall castor from a JCM900 cab. You can't really use these in place, although I suppose it would do for a temp fix.
