Jensen Alnico Speakers for Muzak

That elusive piece of the overall equation, so many options and so little time to test them all — Celestion, Fane, Eminence, Jensen, JbL, Utah, Ceramic, Alnico, 1x12, 2x12, 4x12, 2x10, 4x10, 1x15, 2x15, 4x15, 1x18 and I'm sure there are even more!

I asked about this over at The Gear Page and nobody has chimed in other than a general comment. I found a box of 10 dusty old speakers at a local Habitat for Humanity Restore that were pulled from some building. they had the huge ceiling mounting panel and a transformer mounted to them and upon closer inspection noticed that they said Jensen speakers Made for Muzak. They also are P8SM models which to me would coincide to 8 watt and M for Muzak possibly.

Anyone every tried these for guitar? Am going to bring an ohm meter to verify the resistance next time I go there. Probably not great by themselves but I can see making a couple of 4x8 boxes. There were at least 10 of these in the box. Hoping to get for a decent price.

If anyone has any experience with them I would appreciate any insight.

Thanks

Nope, sorry.

Generally, the "extended range" speakers have either a) a light duty cone, b) an added whizzer cone (not good for guitar) or c) both.

I'd also be reluctant to run much power through those.

But - who knows? Maybe you'll discover the "next big thing" :D ! IF, the price is right...

I don't know about next big thing. Id just like to make something for myself that is cool if the price is right. If they work I'd like to turn some other people onto them. I have not found a single word about Jensen Muzak speakers but I bet there are or were a ton out there. Every Drs office, elevator or office building playing the girl from Iponema.

Number one question for me would be if they have whizzers. If not I'd buy some.

Shine a flashlight into the grill. Might be able to tell that way.

I was able to check out the speakers and get a price. The speakers do not have a wizzer. They are 8 ohm. It has a screen or partial screen for the dust cap and the cone is not a trumpet it does have a few ribs. 10 speakers for $30+tax. They are set aside for me. The true test will be when I put some guitar through them. I have a Supro/Valco Clone Amp that I believe will pair well with 4 or 6 or 8 of these speakers.
