Altec Lansing Model 816 VI Value?

That elusive piece of the overall equation, so many options and so little time to test them all — Celestion, Fane, Eminence, Jensen, JbL, Utah, Ceramic, Alnico, 1x12, 2x12, 4x12, 2x10, 4x10, 1x15, 2x15, 4x15, 1x18 and I'm sure there are even more!

Altec Lansing Model 816 VI Value?

Postby sound city 69 on Sun Nov 02, 2014 12:41 am

Hello, I have a pair of Altec Lansing 816 VI Horn Loaded Low Frequency System speakers in excellent condition to sell but don't know how to price them. I see the 16" 515-8GHP drivers alone on e-bay for $450 (beat up) and $550 (re-coned). I realize that a lot of things on e-bay are way overpriced but is there that much demand for those drivers? Are they worth more out of the cabinets? I'd appreciate any advise, thanks.

Think your audience will be limited to audiophiles. Speaker cabinet design has come a long way since those were developed - especially in the Live Sound realm.

Due to their size and weight, I'm not surprised to see sellers offering just the raw drivers.

Thanks Dave, I opened one up and found that the driver was switched for a McCauley 6244. I'm going to open the other one today.
You're probably right that selling the drivers separate will be the best option.

where are ya located?
i do not know the speaker driver which is installed in that cab
but, while bulky and heavy those cabs are not to be sneezed at.

oh...well that would be quite a hike to pick up cabs...wonder what shipping on them would run?
too bad I do not have contacts in the freight business anymore
or I could arrange for someone in the area to bring them south...
