Replacements for 63 Gibson GA25 RVT

That elusive piece of the overall equation, so many options and so little time to test them all — Celestion, Fane, Eminence, Jensen, JbL, Utah, Ceramic, Alnico, 1x12, 2x12, 4x12, 2x10, 4x10, 1x15, 2x15, 4x15, 1x18 and I'm sure there are even more!

Replacements for 63 Gibson GA25 RVT

Postby squelcheroo on Fri Jan 03, 2014 1:42 am

Hi I'm new to the forum. Just bought a 63 Gibson GA25 RVT. It fires up okay but upon inspection found that one of the original Jensens has damaged cone and wiring. This is the 2-10" model with the 7591 tubes. I would have both speakers reconed however I'm not crazy about the sound of the working speaker. The amp could use some warmth. I prefer my Fenders. Any recommendations for speakers that could help bring it around?
Thanks!

Either the Weber Sig10 Alnico or Ceramic are good for that amp. Maybe one of each...

Thanks 57lpjr....I have webers in my silverface pro and champ and I love them. I'm not nuts about the Jensen or maybe the tubes in my reissue deluxe so I'm real comfortable with that advice. Thanks again for the feedback!

I'd like to sell the amp in order to finance some upgrades and repairs to my Fenders. Would it be best to put the Webers in and offer the originals with the amp for sale or have the originals reconed? Refurbing originals looks like it will cost around $90+ each.

Offer it as-is.

More people would be interested in those (original) Jensens than just about any replacement speaker. Disclose their issue(s) and let the next owner make the call.

Thanks Dave. Any recommendations on Craigslist or Ebay to get decent offer for this amp?

I have a 65 GA25RVT and put Eminence Copperheads in it, which worked out well. But I agree with Dave, for selling it you'd be best to offer it as is.
