Kay 720 Bass amp ressurection

Postby joelster on Mon Mar 06, 2017 9:29 pm

Hi. My first time posting here.

I thought I would post this as the philistines over at the forum where I usually hang out don't really seem to care about these things.

Years ago a friend of mine gave me the guts from a Kay 720 Bass amp. It was really just a pile of parts. I had intended to harvest the transformers but after it sat for a while I took another look at it. The chassis was complete and all the wiring was basically intact so I decided to fix it up as is. After a re-cap and some other work it actually sounds pretty good.

I recently grabbed a broken Motorola Golden Voice (Heppner) 15" speaker for free and had a friend re-cone it to use in this amp. The speaker has a gold colored basket and will look very cool in this amp. Hopefully it sounds just as good.

Yesterday I started building a cab for it. Can't wait to get it all together.

yesss, this, to me, is what its all about. i love restoring old amps, and bringing em back to life. no too many people go through the effort of building a cab for an old chassis, so i always love to see when people do it too! cant wait to see the final result!

Thanks. I'd have it done if I just didn't have to go to work...
