ProAmp Viper combo 2x12

Postby spookyjoe on Sun May 02, 2010 11:33 pm

Hello.
New here.
Does anyone know anything about ProAmp.
Scored a combo off eBay for £50 - spares or repair. Just a pot luck bid. Sold as seen. No speakers.
Took it to Revamp ( local guru )...... lo and behold its top notch.
Now has 2 McKenzie 100watt speakers in. Sounds marvellous.
Apparently based on Musicman amps. Hybrid. Solid state pre , valve power. 6L6/KT66. 2 channels. Reverb. Footswitchable.
Any info be greatly appreciated.

Cheers :D

originally distributed by rosetti in uk in mid 80s , they did the Viper (valve) and venom (ss) identical controls etc most of ones i have seen have had celestion speakers, either a 1x12" or 2x10" havent seen a 2x12" myself.
Great little amps did the business and sorta looked more fender than MM but allways quite short amps.
if you can get it working for low money, good find.

Hello and thanks for post.
It is working for next to nothing...... and is fantastic. A real bargain.
I don't think they made 2x12.... but we managed to get 2 12's in. Very loud for 50/65watts. Clean and dirty lovliness.
Reverb is nice.... plus original footswitch.
I think they were based in Essex..... eventually morphing by a convoluted path into Ashdown Engineering. Could be wrong?!?!
Now looking for another one. Spares or repairs.

Madkenzies were a good choice - takes the toppy fizz off the amp.
Orig spec was G12-80s - great rock drivers.

Last one I got was £60 on Gumtree.
Swapped the drivers out for a pair of Eminences and got my money back from a practice room where it lasted about three weeks.

They seem happier with single coils htan with humbuckers.
Shut that thing off and get to bed!

Hi,

Ive got one of these. An old Proamp viper 100 watt. Someone who is handy with a soldering iron and knows their way around a amp could take it off my hands for a few quid. Anyone interested?

Reverb channel doesnt work, other channels do work, has original footswitch and valves. I dont have the time to fiddle with it, and its just taking up space in my sons bedroom these days.

Hi, what happened to the Viper? If you still have it I'm interested.
