Hagstrom 614 20 watt guitar amp ?

Postby larkoh on Wed May 04, 2005 4:26 am

Yesterday I got a Hagstrom 614 amp from a freind, I tried it, the volume dropped when the tube got hot (after 5 minutes or so) and the sound was distorted, I had new output tubes EL84 that i switched in, same problem. Then I messaured the voltage after the rectifier tube (EZ81) it dropped from approx. 300V to 260V in 5 minutes.
My thoughts is that the rectifier tube is bad or ??

You can se the schem here.

Hej Lars.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm looking for info on the Hagstrom 614--and the schematic...
Going to your link gets me:

I'm in the process of acquiring a 614--any info out there would be mucho appreciated!!

Also--mods.
There's really no place to post info about the wonderful Swedish Hagstroms, which is why this is posted under "Miscellaneous British Amplifiers"...
Maybe a topic of "Miscellaneous European Amplifiers" might be in order?
Thanks!!

You're not the first to have noticed that oddity, tonewoods. I remember making exactly the same suggestion a few years back. Alas, it fell on deaf ears back then. Fingers crossed that you have better luck this time round. :fingersx:

Most likely a leaking coupling cap.

No matter. As i´m friends with 4_10 (Sixten) i´ve poked him over Facebook...guess he´ll be around shortly to hand you the schem.

I half recently modified the living crap out of one of those. The 614s that is.
Turned it into sort of a dual channel screamer. Takes a bit of work tho.

Be adviced that these amps do NOT conform to "the golden rule",and hence can be a bit noisy-to be blunt. Making them do so is a simple matter of adding a solderlug or two and making sure that nothing hits the point where the centertap and grounding of first e-lyte resides.
In turn i for one at least redid the entire ground layout. Made for a vastly more comfortable amp to be around. About dead silent in idle.
The EF-86 in turn i put up front on the one channel. Works great as such.

Thanks for that!
Appreciate it...

I do have the schematic, or at least I think I do...
It resides in a nice little pouch inside the amp that I haven't opened yet...
I'll scan 'em, and post them here for future generations...

Love to get this thing sounding useful, and I will fabricate some legs out of curly maple...
Anyone have pics from a catalog of what the legs might look like??
Length, etc.

Here's the panel...
Missing the fuse holder and the original "unusual" power cable...
Figured that both need to be replaced to modern spec...

OK, I found these online, and they are exactly the same as the schematics that came onboard with my amp...
