CARLSBRO CS60TC (rebuilt)

Postby bill bokey on Tue Sep 22, 2015 1:26 pm

Here's a Calrsbro CS60TC head I just rebuilt :

I had an old PA60 Reverb that needed repair :

But instead of fixing it I decided to turn it into a CS60TC.

Image

I replaced the OT with a Drake from another Carlsbro amp (a 50TOP head), I also had an old CS100 chassis lying around so I used its faceplate and input jacks.
I removed the PA60 board :

I initially had planned on using the CS100 board but it was in such a bad condition I thought it safer to make a new one :

Image

I used as much vintage-correct components as possible for the new board :

Image

Then I installed a standby switch and an IEC mains socket and fitted the board in the chassis. All the pots are brand new Alpha pots, I didn't have the right "old" ones

Image

Tung Sol EL34Bs, and some NOS preamp valves for now :

Image

I had an old empty SAI cab and some cool unused speakers. A pair of Fane 'SOUND CITY' 122/190 :

Image

And a pair of Goodmans Audiom 12-P

Image

Loaded them in the cab in a X pattern :

And here's a pretty cool (and great sounding !) half stack :

Cool, unsure why Carlsbro are still so underrated. Most other stuff is going crazy over last few years.

Love it--love my Carlsbros, too. Is the crunch tone all amp, or are there any pedals involved?

Nice amp! It must have been pushing some air on the crunch video; I had a PA60 for a while and it was loud as. Love the old Fanes too, my favourite drivers.

It wasn't that loud.... then again I'm used to playing dimed 100 watters (Super Lead and Super Bass) so maybe I don't know what loud is anymore....
