Elpico Amps

Postby Pitchfork on Tue Sep 15, 2015 9:11 am

I'm beginning to wonder whether I am the only person with an interest in these 'little green amps'
If you also have an interest, or even own one, please could you make it known?
Cheers

These little green amps are both Dallas Scala but I am thinking the Elpico was very similar. I think they both have Elpico speakers.

AC-55 Mark II here. Have owned it 8 years now. Mine had an external 1/4 " speaker jack on the chasis.

Good man!
I have a MK1 AC55 with matching speaker cabinet & 2 MK2s as well as an AC52
I recently managed to borrow an AC55 with the Tremolo option which I restored for the owner as well as copying
I have fitted the prototype copy tremolo to one of my MK2s & another is half built for the other amp
Both MK1 & MK2 have an additional speaker jack on the power amp chassis BTW

I have never run the amp through the external speaker jack. Never knew what impedance cabinet to run it into and not strain or damage the output transformer with the wrong load. Aren't the elliptical speakers 4 ohm? I need to have mine serviced, sound started fading like a cap was starting to go, so I stopped playing through it.

Forgot to mention I actually picked up a spare AC-55 chassis with all the original transformers, etc, which I thought that was a rare score in itself, more so than finding the whole amp.

Original internal speaker is 3 ohms
The external speaker jack is in parallel with the internal speaker so to reduce strain on the output transformer it would be advisable to use as high an impedance external speaker as possible i.e. something like a 16 ohm one
Spare transformers/chassis is extremely fortunate & probably unique!
